Headline News: Leveraging existing technology systems to support overdose notifications statewide
Drug Overdoses are on the rise in Oregon, having generated more than 10,000 hospital emergency visits in 2022. Even more alarmingly, overdose deaths—from both prescribed medications and street drugs—more than doubled from 2018 to 2022. HIT Commons has been developing a novel initiative that leverages both the Collective Medical platform in Oregon and the state’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) to automatically generate notification letters to prescribers when their patients experience an overdose within any of Oregon’s emergency departments.
